This article offers a step-by-step guide for how to install the instant messaging application named Trillian on your mobile device and connect it to your Lime Talk account. This guide shows only a part of this entire process on a specific application.
Please download the Trillian application from the App Store by visiting the App Store on your iPhone and searching for Trillian.
Open the newly downloaded app Trillian and click on “Sign up for free!” to create a free account with Trillian (you will not need this account, but it is necessary to create one in order to use Trillian). Simply input your first and second name and click on the “Next” button. Then, choose any username you want, a password and your e-mail address and click “Next” again. Now, just confirm that you are above the age of 13 by clicking “Agree” on the following screen.
Trillian will ask for your phone number. Feel free to press “Skip” to skip this step. On the next screen, click “Continue” to start setting up your IM accounts. On the list of accounts, you see a Trillian account that you will not use in this tutorial, and, therefore, you need to click on “Add Account” to start adding your XMPP/Jabber account.
On the next screen choose “Jabber/XMPP” as a type of new account and use your login details for your XMPP/Jabber account that you either already own or created according to blog post “Connecting Lime Talk to Your Mobile Device”. After you have filled that in, just click on “Next” and confirm the warning message that Trillian is unable to verify Jabber/XMPP accounts.
Now, choose your newly created XMPP/Jabber account and choose settings by clicking the “Settings” button in the upper left-hand corner. Choose “Manage Contacts” on the following screen.
In order to connect your Trillian application to a Lime Talk account, you need to add a new contact by clicking “Add” in the upper right-hand corner. On the “Add Contact” screen, you need to choose your XMPP/Jabber account by clicking on the “Service“ field and then choosing the XMPP/Jabber account on the following screen. After you choose your account, go back to the “Add contact” screen by clicking on “Add Contact” in the upper left-hand corner. On the next screen, type “email@example.com” as JID for your new contact. You can leave the display name blank and continue by clicking “Done” in the upper right-hand corner.
Now, go back to the initial page by clicking “Settings” in the upper left-hand corner and then “Close” at the same position on the next screen. Now, you see a new request that you need to authorize. So, click on the “Requests” button in the middle.
On the “Add Requests” screen, first choose the “firstname.lastname@example.org” by clicking on it. A green indicator should appear on the left of the name and then click the button “Add” on the screen.
To connect your Lime Talk account, click on the newly added contact email@example.com and send a message containing the Lime Talk authorization code that you find in your Lime Talk client zone. Just log in to the Lime Talk client zone, click on your name in the upper right-hand corner and navigate to “Communication through mobile devices”. Then, use the code that starts with “!setup…”
Once you send the authorization code to the Lime Talk bot contact, you should receive a message confirming your new connection to a Lime Talk account. Now, you just need to authorize other Lime Talk contacts (bots). Just go back by clicking the icon in the upper left-hand corner and then choose the button “Requests”. On the following screen, click on every new request, and you should see a green icon next to each contact. When you have them all selected, just click “Accept.”
Congratulations! You are now ready to receive messages from your visitors on your mobile device. Just try it out!
