Installing Chat on Android (Xabber)

This is a tutorial on how to install chat on an Android device (via Xabber). For a general description of how communication through mobile works, see Connecting Lime Talk to Your Mobile.)

First, download the Xabber from Google Play.

Open the application and click the “SIGN UP” button (if you already have an XMPP/Jabber account, click “SIGN IN” to continue). Choose your new username and password, accept the terms, and pass the anti-robot verification. In our tutorial, we skipped linking to a 3rd party account.

Now locate the authorization code found in the Lime Talk client zone by clicking on your name at the top right and going to the Communication via Mobile. On the mobile, type in the authorization code from the Lime Talk client zone (code starts “!setup…”) as a message and send. You should receive a confirmation message immediately.

To chat with multiple visitors at the same time, confirm the requests of another five contacts. Repeat the following step a total of 5 times: swipe over the top of the screen and in the drop-down click on the “Authorization request”. On the next screen, click “AUTHORIZE” and on the next screen, click “ADD CONTACT”.

Finally, your Xabber startup screen should look like this:

If the authorization request disappears by mistake, you can recall it by switching to OFFLINE and back to ONLINE.

And with that, set-up should be complete.

From now on, just be online in your XMPP/Jabber app and visitors will see you are online on your website. Once a visitor sends you a message, you will receive a notification in your app. If you want to be offline, just log out of the mobile app.
