Talk supports communication via XMPP/Jabber protocol. This gives you great flexibility when choosing the application that you wish to use to communicate with your website’s visitors. This article will show you how to set up your mobile device (cell phone, tablet, etc.) so that it can easily be used to communicate with your website’s visitors.
In order to set up Lime Talk to work properly with your mobile device, you need three things:
You may easily create your XMPP/Jabber account here at https://www.xmpp.jp/signup. Just fill in a username to use with your XMPP/Jabber account, choose a password, verify that you are not a robot and click “Register” (see picture below).
If your chosen username is available, you should receive a message confirming successful registration (see picture below). Congratulation! You now own a XMPP/Jabber account!
XMPP/Jabber protocol is an open platform, so there is a wide variety of solutions for each mobile operating system. We have tested some of the applications on our devices, so feel free to pick up one application that corresponds to your mobile operating system or test a few and see which one works best for you.
If you wish to explore further, you may want to check out some of the applications from this list: http://xmpp.org/xmpp-software/clients.
We have created a tutorial for you “Installing Trillian IM application on Your Apple Mobile Device” to give you an idea of how this works. The procedure is very similar as every other application.
From now on, using Lime Talk on your mobile device is very simple. Just be online on your IM account that is connected to your Lime Talk account, and your website’s visitors will see you online. You will receive a message in your IM application when someone tries to contact you. If you want to get offline, just switch to offline status in your IM application.
The same process described in this article may be used to connect your desktop IM application to your Lime Talk account. This way, you don’t need to have Lime Talk client zone open in your browser, and you can just install one of many IM desktop applications that are available on your platform.
